Arco was the first city to be powered by atomic energy in 1955. Much of the area we will pass today have underground nuclear production sites that produce several types of nuclear generators. After having breakfast with a group of young cyclists also crossing the US, we headed toward Jackson, WY. It turned out to be a bit ambitious as there were two passes to climb and 156 miles. Plus, I stopped at EBR1 museum, the very first Nuclear Breeder Reactor. Again, very cool to take a tour through the world’s first nuclear power plant.

It was a pretty flat road through Idaho Falls, where we stopped at the Snow Eagle Brewery on the Snake river for lunch. They had very tasty sandwiches. The climb started when we turned on Rte 31 into Caribou-Targhee Nat’l Forest and Pine Creek Summit. We made it as far as Victor, Idaho, just 18 miles short of Jackson, Wyoming. As luck would have it, we discovered Teton Springs Resort and Spa. The room was so nice, we decided we would take Father’s Day off tomorrow and check out Jackson by car.
